The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja will be on the receiving end of surveillance equipment following the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) approval of the contract worth about N1.3bn.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed in his address to State House media persons at the Presidential Villa and on behalf of the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika. The briefing of media corespondents occurred after a meeting of the FEC, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, “The total sum of the contract is N1,278,594,250. This is in order to upgrade and provide security and safety for the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, especially to avoid incidence on the air site and runway.”

It should be noted that this contract is one of a number of contracts recently approved by the FEC, others being contracts for the procurement of hydrographic survey boats and the building of a power station in Cross River State.
