Aviation Round Table Commends Presidency for Order on Ease of Doing Business, Cautions Agencies - By Stella RONE

Mr. Gbenga Olowo, President, ART. The Aviation Round Table (ART) unequivocally commends the Presidency for the recently issued Executive Orders designed to facilitate the ease of doing business in the Aviation sector of the economy. In furtherance of this unique presidential initiative, our body also appreciates the dismantling of the "dash table "at our international airports which has improved passenger facilitation.  ART recommends that operators and various agencies involved in Aviation should also address the following administrative and safety issues: FAAN, NAMA and Trade Unions should desist from embarrassing the country with acts of barricading Check- in- Counters of airlines in order to collect outstanding payments.  The agencies should develop efficient and effective ways of collecting dues, rates and remittances from operators in the industry rather than strong arm tactics that could lead to break down of law and order in the airport environment. Closer Collaboration Key to Enhancing Aviation Security

Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Director General and CEO The International Air Transport Association (IATA) 73rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) adopted a resolution reaffirming the airline industry’s commitment to safety and security. It also called for greater collaboration among all government and industry stakeholders to keep flying secure with risk mitigation measures that maximize the protection of passengers and crew while minimizing disruption to passengers and the economy at large. "Aviation is a target for terrorists intent on destroying the freedom that is at the heart of our business. Information sharing among governments and with the industry is the key to staying a step ahead of emerging threats. We have the same goals—to keep passengers and crew safe. Muhtar Usman has called for greater sensitization and awareness of youths at the grassroots as a way of raising future aviation professionals to take over from the ageing workforce in the air transport sector. Speaking at the Grand Finale of the 8th National Travel Essay Competition and Air Transport Youth Empowerment Summit (NTEC 2017) organized by Travel & Business News, the DG said: “The future will be brighter for air transport if we introduce fascinating reach out programmes that can attract the younger ones into the profession,” adding that such programmes will perhaps shape their mentality, stimulate interest and career in aviation.
