Carnival Calabar Warms Up With Kings & Queens Contest

Posted By Ewos IRORO The 2013 Carnival Celebrations of the annual Month-long Calabar Festival got off to an exhilarating start with music and dance. The U. J Esuene Stadium, venue of the event, lit up as the Ballet Dancers from Rwanda took to the stage and dazzled the crowd with various traditional music and dance coupled by a carefully choreographed display of synchronized drumming. The contest was in two categories comprising of the Junior and Senior Kings and Queens. Five bands performed on the night including Bayside Band; Freedom Band; Passion Band; Seagull Band and Master Blaster Band. Aviation Minister Inspects Work At MMIA

Minister inspecting one of the new fingers The Honourable Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, on December 24, 2013, visited the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos to inspect expansion works at the D and E wings as well as other newly introduced facilities currently under construction within the airport terminal. Facilities inspected include the Extended Departure and Arrival Halls, new in-bound baggage reclaim carousels, on-going construction work on “Fingers” as well as Transit Facilities. The extended Departures Halls feature five state-of-the-art screening machines and two Body Scanners at each of the wings in addition to 30 new immigration counters.A distinguishing feature of the new screening machines is the ability to detect explosive materials and potential threat items real time with the lowest rate of false alarms. SAHCOL Training Facility Receives IATA Cetification As Approved Training Centre

The Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) Training School has been certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as its Authorized Training Centre (ATC). Mr. Olu Owolabi, MD, SAHCOL By this status, it means that SAHCOL has joined the global partnership in human capital development for the aviation industry, in collaboration with IATA. The offer further entails that IATA recognizes and approves of SAHCOL instructors and facility, which now offers aviation professional trainings, preparing participants for IATA examinations. NCAA Concludes Audit of DANA Air, But With Open Items

The Audit of Dana Airlines has been concluded and the report reveals some open items that have to be closed. This was disclosed by the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Capt Fola Akinkuotu who adjudged the outcome of the audit concluded on Friday 13 th December 2013 as good and healthy. The DG described the exercise as painstaking, professional and transparent, involving the NCAA Flight Standard Group (FSG) in conjunction with their foreign partners. According to the Director General, NCAA will meet with Dana Air where their action plan towards closing the open items will be reviewed and agreed upon, stating that further consultations will thereafter take place to determine possible date of resumption of flight operations. Capt Akinkuotu has however declared that henceforth the audit will be an annual exercise for all airlines including Dana Air, adding that a schedule audit programme will be drawn up for all the airlines on annu
