Kenya Airways increases frequencies ahead of Holiday Season

Posted By Marvel ADEYEMI Kenya Airways has announced increased frequency to 11 destinations during the month of December as the airline prepares for an anticipated surge in demand on these routes during the festive season. Among the domestic destinations to which Kenya Airways will fly to frequently are: Malindi, to which it will fly seven times every week, up from the current six times; and Mombasa, to which it will fly 88 times, which is 11 frequencies more than it does currently. Regionally, the airline will increase flights to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania from the current five times to seven times weekly; and to Juba in South Sudan from the current 12 every week, to 19 times. Further afield, Kenya Airways will now be flying to Gaborone in Botswana five times a week, up from the current three times; to flights to Antananarivo in Madagascar seven times weekly, up from the current four times; and to Seychelles four times a week from the current three

Convened under the theme "Challenging Times – Africa's Strategic Alignment" , the 45th AGA and Summit will take stock of the air transport growth trends, challenges and opportunities in Africa, assess the impact of global developments and strategize on how as an industry, airlines can work together to capitalize on the opportunities arising from the business and investment boom. NCAA DG Congratulates Aliu On His New Appointment

The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Folaleye Akinkuotu, has congratulated Dr. O. B. Aliu on the occasion of his recent appointment as President of the ICAO Council for the next three years. “On behalf of the Management and staff of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), I wish to express our profound congratulations to you on your election as the fifth President of the International Civil Aviation Organization Council (ICAO),” he said in a statement issued by the Authority. Nigeria’s Aliu Becomes First Black ICAO President.

A Nigerian, Dr Olumuyiwa Babatunde Aliu has been elected President of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the umbrella world body for Aviation safety. The election makes him the very first black man ever to head the world body. He was elected on Novermber 18, 2013 at the 38 th  Assembly of the organisation in Montreal, Canada by an assembly consisting of 172 countries.   Aliu received full support from the Federal Government and Nigerians both at home and in Diaspora as the Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah led the Nigerian delegation to drum up support for the accomplished veteran who has built invaluable goodwill among ICAO member countries’ representatives. IATA Africa Aviation Day 2013: Tyler Advocates IOSA For African Airlines

The Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Mr. Tony Tyler, has called on Governments in Africa to make the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) mandatory for airlnes. He made the call while delivering his opening remarks at the 2013 IATA Africa Aviation Day held recently at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. Mr. Tyler stressed that “No priority is greater than safety,” but expressed dismay that Africa’s performance was well below what is being achieved globally. He revealed that in 2012 African airlines had one accident (with a Western-built jet aircraft) for every 270,000 flights as against the global industry average of one accident for about every 5 million flights.
