Travel & Business News took center Stage at the 9th Akwaaba African Travel Market held at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on October 27-29, 2013. Mr. Ewos Iroro, Editor, Travel & Business News, was one of the Speakers during the Business Travel Education Section of the event conducted by Africa Business Travel Association (ABTA) based in South Africa and led by Monique Swart, its founder. A member of ABTA himself, Mr. Iroro spoke on the topic: Service Delivery in West Africa – Key Challenges and Opportunities for Improvement.” He noted that some of the challenges being faced in service delivery within the region bother on issues of attitude, app roach, knowledge, know-how & skills, motivation and empowerment on the part of staff or service providers. “Service delivery is a skill, talent, an art and professionalism. It is a function of a customer’s perception of you,” Mr. Iroro declared.
Borrowing a leaf from Vernon Hill of Commerce Bank, USA, he further noted that: “Providing great customer service is the only way you can increase your market share in any industry. When the products all look alike, the prime point of differentiation is the buyer’s perception of you,” adding that, “Word of mouth is the single most powerful method of building a business; so we have to respect our customers.” The presentation caught the interest of high profile guests and participants in attendance including Mr. Gabe Onah, Chairman, Cross River State Carnival Commission who commended Mr. Iroro’s efforts and presented him with a DVD gift of the 2012 Calabar Carnival with a promise to specially invite him to Calabar to be part of the 2013 edition.
