L-R: Captain Fola Akinkuotu, MD NAMA; Mr. Victor Eyaru, retired Airspace Manager MMIA.

It was a day for eulogizing and paying tribute to Mr. Victor Akpobaro Eyaru, as his family, friends and industry colleagues gathered to celebrate the 35 years he spent in the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The ceremony was organized by close friends and was held at the NAMA Centrex in Lagos.

Mr. Eyaru officially bowed out as Airspace Manager of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) on December 31, 2020 and was equally the former president, Nigeria Air Traffic Controllers Association, NATCA.

During the ceremony, Mr. Eyaru was extolled for being selfless and for advocating and obtaining various benefits for NATCA and other professional unions over the years.

In his address to the guests present, Captain Fola Akinkuotu, Managing Director NAMA praised Mr. Eyaru for providing exceptional service to the Agency, wished him well and conveyed his joy that he was leaving in good health. “You are leaving standing up straight and in a healthy form. May the good Lord continue to grant you good health and the ability to lead people and lead them to a safe shore”, he said.

He continued by saying that it is now up to those left behind in the Agency to keep up with the good work Mr. Eyaru had started. He also used the opportunity to remind all present to stay safe, not just from COVID-19, but from anything that might compromise their health.

On his part, Mr. Eyaru thanked the management of NAMA, various aviation unions and professional associations in NAMA for all their support over the years he spent in service. He took time out to mourn the loss of air traffic controllers the Agency has lost within the past one year – some who were his friends and others who had become like his brothers.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts by various Unions and Associations to which the celebrant was once a member.
