The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday December 4, 2025, conferred upon Allen Onyema (Dr), Chairman and CEO of Air Peace, the honour of Distinguished Human Rights Defender at its 30th Anniversary Celebration in Abuja. The solemn ceremony, held at the Nigerian Airforce Conference Centre, convened eminent voices in Nigeria's human rights landscape. Yet another award underscoring Onyema's transformative humanitarian interventions across Africa.

The Commission specifically highlighted Onyema's trailblazing philanthropic endeavors, including the rescue of trafficked Nigerian girls in Côte d’Ivoire, where Air Peace's operational prowess facilitated their safe repatriation. His decisive actions during South Africa's xenophobic attacks ensured the free evacuation of stranded Nigerians, leveraging Air Peace's extensive network. Additionally, Onyema orchestrated critical humanitarian airlifts during the COVID-19 pandemic and conflict situations, exemplifying corporate responsibility and compassion.

The CEO's longstanding commitment to peacebuilding in the Niger Delta has championed non-violent transformation initiatives, fostering regional stability. His support for Nigerian athletes and strategic relief interventions for internally displaced persons in Northern Nigeria further cemented his legacy of uplifting vulnerable communities. "A patriot whose actions consistently restore confidence in humanity," the NHRC lauded Onyema's embodiment of compassion, justice, and nation-building.

This latest recognition augments his growing list of national honors, including the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) bestowed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It affirms his towering influence in humanitarian service and corporate leadership, positioning him as a paragon of impactful philanthropy.

The NHRC's 30th anniversary celebration also honored other luminaries such as Prof. Wole Soyinka, Alhaja Saudatu Mahdi, Prof. Ngozi Joy Ezeilo, Dr. Abdul Shaibu Oroh, and Barr. Mrs. Ayo Obe, among others. The event marked three decades of the Commission's steadfast defense of human rights and promotion of Nigerian dignity.
