FAAN Conference 2025: A Call to Elevate Nigerian Aviation through Investments, Partnerships - By Daisy BARRO


The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) convened the 2025 FAAN National Aviation Conference (FNAC) on the 17th and 18th of November, 2025 at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, with the theme "Elevating the Nigerian Aviation Industry through Investment, Partnership & Global Engagements." The event brought together prominent figures, including government officials, industry leaders, and international partners, to discuss the future of Nigerian aviation.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director/Chief Executive of the FAAN, highlighted Nigeria's vast investment opportunities, citing the country's strategic geographic location, growing economy, and large population. She emphasized the Authority's commitment to delivering world-class airport infrastructure, boosting operational efficiency, and enhancing passenger experience.

"We meet at a pivotal moment for global aviation. The industry is not just recovering; it is soaring to new heights. According to IATA, global passenger traffic is set to reach a historic 4.99 billion this year, decisively surpassing pre-pandemic levels. But look further ahead. Airports Council International forecasts a surge to 9.7 billion passengers by 2040. And where is the centre of this next wave of growth? Africa," Mrs. Kuku said.

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, FCIArb (UK), echoed Mrs. Kuku's sentiments, stating that Nigeria's aviation sector has fundamentally changed, shifting from problem-spotting to solution-building. He presented investment opportunities in airport infrastructure modernization, MRO hub development, aviation leasing companies, and cargo and logistics hubs.

"Nigeria is not only a large market; it is a strategic aviation hub, and the investment priorities we present are structured, viable, and designed for private-sector leadership," Keyamo said.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, emphasized Nigeria's commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. He highlighted the government's efforts in strengthening regulatory oversight, promoting transparency, and offering incentives for investment in the aviation sector:

"The theme of the 2025 conference 'Elevating the Nigerian Aviation Industry through Investment, Partnership and Global Engagements' tallies perfectly with the focus of this administration which is to transform the aviation sector into a critical engine for national growth and global competitiveness in a manner that drivers job creation, prosperity and wealth," he said.

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, Board Chairman of FAAN, reiterated the authority's commitment to delivering world-class airport infrastructure and enhancing passenger experience. He commended the government's efforts in transforming Nigeria's airports and expressed appreciation for the ongoing reforms in the aviation sector:

"The FAAN Board has commenced nationwide inspection visits to airports to assess progress and challenges, and to engage stakeholders in ensuring the implementation of the President's aviation reform agenda," Dr. Ganduje said.

The conference provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in robust discussions on airport commercialization, aviation safety, cargo development, revenue optimization, and multi-modal transport. The event concluded with a call to action, urging investors, regulators, operators, and innovators to collaborate and elevate Nigerian aviation to new heights.
