Ghana Mourns Loss of Aviation Pioneer, Marwan Traboulsi - By Daisy BARRO

Ghana's aviation sector is mourning the loss of Marwan Traboulsi, founder and CEO of Air Ghana, who passed away on September 30, 2025, in the United Kingdom. Born in Accra to the late Amin and Sybil Traboulsi, Marwan was a visionary entrepreneur who transformed Ghana's agricultural and aviation sectors through innovative ventures.

He co-founded FARMEX, an agricultural company that developed mango and pineapple plantations into an international export brand, and established Air Ghana in 1993 to expand opportunities for air cargo exports of perishable produce and other goods to Europe.

Marwan's impact on the aviation industry was significant. He spearheaded the creation of the Ghana Airport Cargo Centre (GACC) at Kotoka International Airport and introduced Swissport Ghana, a leading global airport handling company. These ventures helped position Ghana as a logistics and aviation hub in West Africa.

Prior to his passing, Marwan had initiated plans for Air Ghana to commence domestic passenger operations on the Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale routes, aiming to bridge the capacity deficit in the Ghanaian market from the first quarter of 2026. This move was expected to stimulate the market, offering passengers more options, potentially improved service levels, and competitive fares.

Marwan's legacy extends beyond his business achievements. He is remembered as a true visionary, a man of energy, courage, generosity, and foresight. His determination and belief in Ghana's potential empowered countless producers to share their labor with the world.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, his children Cara and Karim, and four grandchildren.
