Ibom Air Marks 2026 World Malaria Day With Pharmaceutical Donation, Community Mobilization - By Daisy BARRO

In observance of 2026 World Malaria Day, Ibom Air has executed a strategic handover of antimalarial pharmaceuticals to the State Malaria Elimination Programme, operating under the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health. The intervention was delivered through the carrier’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform, FAMPact — Fight Against Malaria in Pregnant Women and Children Today.

The consignment comprised 30,000 doses of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine, 10,000 doses of Lokmal DT, and 10,000 doses of Paracetamol DT, intended to bolster therapeutic capacity and mitigate the disease burden within vulnerable demographics. The pharmaceuticals were formally presented on Thursday, April 24, 2026, a day preceding the global commemoration, by Ibom Air Chief Executive Officer Mr. George Uriesi, accompanied by members of the airline’s executive management. The materials were received by Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, on behalf of the state government.

This exercise represents the third consecutive annual contribution by the airline, underscoring health security as a core pillar of its CSR architecture. The 2026 World Malaria Day theme, “Driven to end malaria, Now we can, Now we must,” aligns with FAMPact’s mandate to catalyze community-level engagement and expand dialogue on prophylaxis, with particular emphasis on protecting gravid patients and children under five — cohorts disproportionately affected by malaria, which persists as one of Nigeria’s principal contributors to mortality.

To augment its clinical intervention with grassroots advocacy, Ibom Air is convening a public sensitization event tagged “Walk Against Malaria” on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Uyo. The mobilization will commence at Ibom Plaza at 06:00 hrs and will integrate health education modules, community sensitization, and aerobic activities. Medical influencer Dr. Chinonso Egemba Fidelis, professionally known as Aproko Doctor, is scheduled to participate to further amplify outreach and behavioral change messaging.

Commenting on the program’s significance, Mrs. Imelda Aba, Group Manager for Corporate Services at Ibom Air, noted: “At Ibom Air, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond flying passengers to their destinations. Through FAMPact, we are investing directly in the health and well-being of our communities. This year's donation and the awareness walk are reminders that malaria is preventable, and everyone has a role to play. We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to drive this message home”, she said.

SMEP Programme Manager Dr. Ukeme John added: “We commend Ibom Air for its sustained commitment to the fight against malaria. This donation comes at a critical time and will significantly support our efforts to protect pregnant women and children. We encourage all Akwa Ibom residents to turn out for the walk and join hands with us to end malaria.”

Inaugurated in 2024, FAMPact has systematically distributed insecticide-treated nets, antimalarial medications, and educational resources in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The initiative has demonstrated progressive scale and operational relevance year-on-year.
