Stage Set For 8th National Travel Essay Competition And Youth Summit


The Grand Finale of the 8th National Travel Essay Competition and Air Transport Youth Empowerment Summit is set to take place on May 27, 2017 at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Annex, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

The annual youth contest, which is open to students in Tertiary Institutions and Secondary Schools, has grown steadily over the years to become a regular event that Nigerian youngsters always look forward to with keen interest on a yearly basis and has gained the acceptance of the air travel industry as a regular feature on the industry calendar annually.

Special guests that have confirmed their presence at this epoch making occasion include Princess Titilayo Owolabi-Akerele, Honourable Member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly; Capt. Muhtar Usman, DG, NCAA; Capt. Dele Ore, former President, Aviation Round Table & Chairman of the Independent Panel of Assessors; Mr. Hafeez Balogun, Country Manager, Kenya Airways; and Mr. George Wadie, General Manager, EgyptAir, Lagos.

The theme of this year's forum: "Raising Future Giants For The Air Travel Sector," clearly encapsulates the vision of the organisers of this annual contest and youth empowerment gathering which is aimed at curbing ageing workforce and skilled manpower shortage in the sector with a strong drive for "Raising Future Aviation Professionals."

Students will be competing for attractive prizes and training scholarships at this year's event just as the case has always been for the last seven editions. The topic for students in Tertiary Institutions is: "Promoting Customer Service Excellence In The Travel & Tourism Sectors," while that for students in Secondary Schools is: "Curbing Cyber Crime And Identity Theft In Air Travel Transactions."

Prizes include free tickets to South Africa, Dubai, Accra and to destinations across Nigeria as well as cash prizes ranging from N150,000 as the grand prize for Tertiary Institutions and N100,000 for Secondary Schools Categories.
