Bristow Sponsors Youth Contest

Bristow Helicopters recently gave a huge boost to the prospect of getting more young Nigerians into following a career in the aviation industry when it joined forces with Travel & Business News, organisers of the National Travel Essay Competition (NTEC) in an effort to ameliorate the clear and present challenge of skilled manpower shortage and ageing workforce in the sector. The company accepted to be the Title Sponsor of the annual contest which was then rechristened as the 5th Bristow Helicopters/Travel & Business News National Travel Essay Competition (NTEC 2013/2014).


During a courtesy call to the rotor operator’s office, winners of this year’s contest were congratulated and presented with cash prizes by the company’s Human Resources Manager, Mr. Femi Collins, who represented the Managing Director. The prizes were for the top ten winners in the Secondary School category and the top five in the Tertiary Institutions Category.
The topics of the essays written were: “Helicopters: How Important To Our Daily Life And Economy” for the Secondary Schools; and “Safety Versus Profit In Airline Operations: Which Comes First?” for the Tertiary Institutions.
Miss Karimat Sowemimo, a student of Murtala Muhammed Airport Secondary School (MMASS), Ikeja, Lagos and winner of the Secondary Schools Category, went home with a cheque for N100,000. Miss Tolulope Ogunkoya of International School (Unilag) Lagos (ISL) was second and took home N60,000. Miss Divine Nwachi also of MMASS came third and was rewarded with N40,000. There were also consolation cash prizes for students in 4th to 6th positions of N20,000 each; and for 7th to 10th positions of N10,000 each.
In the Tertiary Institutions Category, Miss Temitope COKER, a 300 Level Law Student at the University of Lagos (Unilag) came first and went home with a cheque for N150,000. In 2nd place was Miss Janet AYANDELE, a Diploma Student of Business Administration, Unilag, who won N100,000, while Miss Happiness Ndifreke, also a 200 Level student studying Psychology at Unilag came in 3rd place with a cash prize of N50,000. Others were Miss Precious ADEOLA of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State in 4th place with N30,000; and Mr. Ololade OLUSOLA a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago –Iwoye, Ogun State who came 5th and went home with N20,000.
