Air Côte d’Ivoire Acquires First A320neo - By Daisy BARRO
Air
Côte d’Ivoire, the national carrier of Ivory Coast has become the first
airline operator of its kind in West Africa to have an Airbus A320neo in its
fleet.
The aircraft
took off from Toulouse, carrying medical equipment, toys and a ton of
humanitarian goods meant to serve local NGOs in Abidjan. The transportation of
the above goods was possible because of the airline’s partnership with Aviation
Sans Frontières and the Airbus Foundation – agencies that support the education
and health sectors in Ivory Coast.
Experts
opine that the A320neo is a highly efficient aircraft because it incorporates
the most updated technologies such as Sharklets; modern aerodynamics and is
powered by CFM Leap-1A engines. These factors work together to save fuel by 20%
and to greatly reduce the aircraft’s carbon dioxide emission. The A320neo also presents
a two-class layout with 16 Business Class and 132 Economy Class seats arranged
in a very spacious single-aisle cabin to maximize passengers’ comfort.
According
to sources, Air Côte d’Ivoire looks forward to fully taking advantage of
the A320neo’s efficiency, reason why the airline plans on using its latest
aircraft to serve regional routes like Cameroon, Gabon and Senegal. The operational
flexibility of the A320neo will be on full display once the airline launches
other routes like South Africa sometime in the future.
The recent
addition to Air Côte d’Ivoire’s fleet augments the total number of its
aircraft to ten – aircraft which serve 25 domestic and regional destinations in
West and Central Africa.
