Abuja, Port Harcourt Airports Land ACI Accreditation - By Daisy BARRO
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa have recently been accredited by Airports Council International (ACI) for efforts put in place by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in meeting recommended airports’ health standards jointly enumerated by ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery Guidelines and ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force.
On the certificates
issued by the global airports body to each of the airports, ACI notes, “This
certificate recognizes your airport’s commitment to prioritizing health and
safety measures in accordance with ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force
(CART) recommendations and in alignment with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and
Recovery guidelines along with industry best practices.”
According to the
General Manager Corporate Affairs – FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, “The Airport
health accreditation programme is designed to assess how aligned airports’
health measures are with recommendations of the ACI and ICAO Council Aviation
Restart Task Force, along with industry best practices.”
Going further, she
noted that the accreditation follows efforts put in place by FAAN under the
auspices of the Authority’s Managing Director, Capt. Hamisu Yadudu together
with his management team to “ensure the safety and security of all travelers
and airport users.”
It should be noted that in a bid to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and to maintain the security of airport facilities, FAAN recently amped up safety protocols at all airports in Nigeria following the new wave of the disease.
