NCAT Takes Steps to Reduce Carbon Footprint, Enhance Training Capabilities - By Daisy BARRO
The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria, Kaduna, has kicked off the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondence (LAAC) training, with the Rector and CEO, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Ismaila highlighting the institution's efforts to address gaps in aviation training.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Ismaila revealed that upon assuming office, he identified significant gaps in infrastructure preventing the college from meeting the training needs of aviation professionals, which often necessitated students seeking training abroad. To bridge this gap, the college has embarked on an ambitious expansion program, including the construction of 150 additional rooms to accommodate the growing demand for training.
The Rector also disclosed plans to enhance the college's equipment, citing requests from airlines for more flight simulators. "We have acquired the equipment for carrying out a B737 full flight simulation," he said. "We will put it to use in the not-so-distant future, and we are in the process of acquiring more. We are also planning on procuring ERJ 145s, which are very popular among Nigerian carriers", he noted.
On sustainability, the CEO emphasized NCAT's commitment to reducing carbon emissions. "We are adopting ICAO's decarbonization policy and reducing our dependency on unsustainable energy by switching to solar and getting CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles," he stated. "These measures are steps we are taking to reduce carbon emissions and also earn carbon credits."
The LAAC training, which is a recurrent one, marks an important milestone for NCAT, as it demonstrates the college's commitment to providing high-quality training for aviation professionals. As the aviation sector continues to evolve, more institutions are called upon to prioritize training in line with industry best practices.
