NCAA Assures Public of Safety of Nigerian Airlines - By Daisy BARRO

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has assured the travelling public that the Authority will never allow aircraft that are not airworthy to fly in the Nigerian airspace. The DG, NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu gave the assurance on the heels of some reports in the news media regarding the safety of some aircraft flying in the country. He warned that inaccurate news reports can hamper the process of sourcing funds by local operators and capable of hindering their growth as a result. The NCAA’s reaction came after media reports alleged that airline operators may be seeking the easy way out because of lack of a bailout that could be used to ameliorate their operations, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emirates Offers Huge Multi-Risk Travel Insurance Worth $500,000 - By Daisy BARRO

Emirates recently rolled out a pioneer industry initiative which consists of providing its passengers with expanded multi-risk travel insurance at no supplementary cost; this being in addition to its current COVID-19 cover. This supplementary coverage is provided by AIG Travel, and will automatically come with every Emirates ticket purchased from December 1, 2020. It also applies to code share flights operated by partner airlines, provided the ticket number begins with ‘176’. According to the Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates, HH Sheikh Ahmeed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, “Emirates was the first airline to offer complimentary global COVID-19 cover for travelers back in July, and the response from our customers has been tremendously encouraging. Air Peace Starts Makurdi, Resumes Uyo Flights December 7th - By Daisy BARRO

    Air Peace is set to commence flight operations from Lagos and Abuja into Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on December 7, 2020. This will happen in conjuncture with the resumption of flights from Lagos and Abuja into Uyo on the same day. The spokesperson for the airline, Stanley Olisa, said the move is in line with the airline’s route expansion scheme. “It is our promise to interconnect every part of this country and foster economic relations between cities. Be assured that we are coming with more destinations. We are starting Johannesburg in December and India is in the offing”, he said. Olisa noted that the new route is being launched to meet the travel needs of Nigerians who connect Lagos and Abuja to Makurdi and the other way round. Worthy of note also is the fact that Air Peace recently announced the commencement of flight operations into Johannesburg, South Africa, scheduled for December 16, 2020.

Engr. Akin Olateru, Commissioner/CE, AIB The Federal Government has approved a new Condition of Service (CoS) for the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) twelve years after its establishment. The approval was conveyed in a letter dated 25 th June, 2019 sent from the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation. Before this recent approval, the Bureau had operated with the Conditions of Service of a sister agency while the struggle to achieve its own had proved futile over the years.
