Emirates Orders Two Additional A380s
Emirates Airlines has announced that it had placed an order with
Airbus for two additional brand new A380s. The aircraft are due for delivery in
the fourth quarter of 2017. The carrier
currently operates the world’s largest fleet of A380s, with 75 in service and a
further 65 on firm order. These two more two orders, which are powered by
Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, will bring the airline’s total order of A380s to
an impressive 142 aircraft.
Sir Tim Clark, Emirates’ President, said the airline was retiring
30 older aircraft from the fleet between now and the end of next year. “At
the same time, to meet our growth expectations, we will receive delivery of 24
new Boeing 777s and 33 new A380s including these two additional A380s just
ordered,” adding that; “This is in line with our strategy to operate a modern
and efficient fleet and offer the best possible experience for our customers.”
Meanwhile, the carrier plans to introduce Prague, Taipei and
Vienna to its A380 destinations. These additional routes will bring to 42 the
total number of destinations where the aircraft is operated into. “We’ve always
been open about how the A380 has been a big success for Emirates. It’s a boon
for our operations to slot constrained airports and we get a lot of positive
feedback,” Clark noted.
