Egypt To Boost Capacities Of Major Airports To 75.5M By 2020


According to the Minister of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry,  Sherif Fathy, Egypt plans to boost capacity of the country’s key airports from 47 million to upwards of 75.5 million passengers by 2020. He made that announcement while delivering his speech at the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa Regional Conference and Exhibition being held in the country. Fathy noted that the Ministry's strategy aims at expanding in the field of air cargo through establishing a new Cairo Cargo City (CCC) at Cairo International Airport. He added that the new Cargo City is set to be built on a 150,000 square meters space in a bid to increase accommodation capacity by 350,000 tonnes annually by 2020 to reach 800,000 in 2025.

The ACI Africa Regional Conference and Exhibition takes place in Cairo from 8 to 15 April 2016 and is hosted by the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN). The theme of the conference is "Economic sustainability of African airports: Challenges and opportunities" and sessions will focus on the challenges of the economic development and sustainability of air transport in Africa, the enhancement of airport commercial revenues and the safety and security needed to support this development.
