UNVEILING KENYA

Unveiling Kenya
     From Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
Kenya is not just home to the great annual wildlife migration and the aristocratic Maasai: it is the getaway to the African experience - the food, the climate, the culture and the people.
Kenya Airways, popularly known as 'the pride of Africa' is Kenya’s flag carrier airline.

Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the busiest airport in East Africa and a major hub of aviation activity for the region. Owned and operated by Kenya Airports Authority, the airport is located 18 kilometers east of Nairobi. Jomo Kenyatta International is served by some 50 scheduled airlines, with direct connections to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. It is a hub for national carrier Kenya Airways  and low-cost carrier Fly540.

The company was founded in 1977, after the dissolution of East African Airways and has its head office in Embakasi, Nairobi. Kenya Airways is currently a public-private partnership. The largest shareholder is the Government of Kenya (29.8. %), followed by KLM, which has a 26.73% stake in the company. The rest of the shares are held by private owners.
It is also interesting that Kenya Airways was privatized in 1996, becoming the first African flag carrier to successfully do so. With over 35 aircraft, today, Kenya Airways is widely considered as one of the leading Sub-Saharan operators. As of January 2013, the carrier is ranked fourth among the top ten airlines that operate in Africa by seat capacity, behind South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Egypt Air. The airline became a full member of Sky Team in June 2010, and is also a member of the African Airlines Association since 1977. As of June 2012, the company had 4,834 employees.

Kenya and Nigeria: A Cordial Relationship.

It was interesting to note that as a Nigerian, I did not need the Kenyan visa until arrival at the airport.
This made traveling easy by excluding Visa procedures before the trip.
Honorable Akin Oyateru, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Kenya, highlighted that both countries maintained an exceptionally cordial relationship, even in the face of the news of the deportation of some Nigerians making the rounds during our visit.  He maintained that there were administrative lapses which were being addressed at the time.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria's tourism potential would be realised in the days ahead as concrete steps in the right direction have been taken to ensure the nation takes its place on the continent as a tourist destination.
Nigeria has a lot to learn from Kenya's tourism industry that makes it a home away from home for most Nigerians who visit.
