AFRAA Continues Quest for Closer Ties with Membership; Holds CEOs Dialogues with ET – By Daisy BARRO
African Airlines Association (AFRAA) has completed yet another edition of AFRAA Member Airlines CEOs Leadership Dialogues, this time with Ethiopian Airlines (ET) as focal point.
The Dialogue, which is the 7th held
by the Association this year, took place at ET’s headquarters in Addis Ababa – Ethiopia
between an envoy from AFRAA consisting of AFRAA Secretary General (SG), Mr. Abderahmané
Berthé, Mr. Raphael Kuuchi, Director Government, Legal & Industry Affairs; and
a delegation representing ET: Mr. Mesfin Tasew Bekele, Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) of Ethiopian Airlines (ET) Group; Mr. Girma Wake, ET’s Board Chairman
among others.
Top on the agenda were pressing issues such as currency
repatriation; taxes and charges and implementation of the Single African Air
Transport Market (SAATM) – all of which were addressed in detail.
According to the AFRAA boss, “We are pleased to
have met Ethiopian Airlines – one of AFRAA’s founding member airlines - for the
CEOs Dialogues. Today’s discussions was an opportunity for a close connection between
AFRAA and Ethiopian Airlines, and culminated in a better understanding of
Ethiopian Airlines’ priorities vis-à-vis AFRAA’s mandate.”
“We will continue to tailor our actions to
enhance the relevance of the Association to our membership. I look forward to a
continued mutually beneficial working relationship with Ethiopian Airlines and
the entire AFRAA fraternity at large”, he said.
It can be recalled that the last Dialogues were
held last month in Lagos – Nigeria between AFRAA and certain elite Chief
Executives including the CEOs of Air Peace, Barr. Allen Onyema; Capt. Valentine
Tongo of Allied Air and Capt. Edward Boyo of Overland Airways.
AFRAA’s actions, including the CEO’s Dialogues
which have become a hallmark of this current administration, are based on the
Association’s five pillars: cooperation; safe, secure & reliable air
transport; sustainable air transport; visibility, reputation and influence of
African Airlines and data intelligence.
The CEOs Dialogues initiative was born out of
AFRAA’s desire to draw closer to its membership, through the provision of a
platform via which participants discuss the implementation of value-added projects,
as well as ways of being mutually beneficial to each other – both ultimately
geared towards the sustainability of the air transport sector.
