Green Africa Takes Delivery of Its First ATR 72-600 - By Daisy BARRO

Green Africa, one of the new entrants in the Nigerian aviation industry has taken delivery of its very first ATR 72-600 aircraft – the first of three aircraft leased from ACIA Aero Leasing. The jet arrived yesterday April 23, 2021 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) amidst much pomp and pageantry.

According to sources, a number of high ranking personalities from the airline were present to receive the jet, including the Founder/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Green Africa, Babawande Afolabi; President/Chief Operating Officer (COO), Neil Mills and other members and partners of the Founding gTeam.

In a statement expressing his euphoria in relation to the event, Mr. Afolabi (CEO) said, “This is a great day for all of us at Green Africa, and the beginning of what we all hope is a new era in Nigerian aviation. ACIA Aero Leasing has been a very supportive partner and we are proud of this new relationship. The arrival of our first aircraft is a precursor to the completion of our AOC process and very soon, customers from across Nigeria will be able to make bookings on our website and take their first flight with us.”

On his part, the CEO of ACIA Aero Leasing, Mick Mooney praised Green Africa for having a “strategic road map” during a time when the industry is still recovering from the blows dealt it by the Corona Virus pandemic. Mr. Mooney went further to express his pleasure that his company was able to deliver its end of the bargain and conveyed optimism that though the carrier is launching its commercial operations in Nigeria, it will eventually grow to service “the broader African continent.”

Green Africa has received its Air Transport License (ATL) from the Federal Government and is now working closely with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to fulfill the necessary requirements needed to procure its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), which will give it the carte blanche to fully commence operations.
