Emirates Soon to Implement Trial IATA Travel Pass - By Daisy BARRO

Emirates Airline has entered a historic partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and will soon become one of the first airlines globally to implement the trial IATA Travel Pass.

The IATA Travel Pass is a mobile application created to assist passengers in managing their travel according to any government requirements for COVID-19 testing. Emirates passengers will thus be able to create ‘digital passports’ to verify whether their pre-travel vaccinations or tests meet the requirements of their destinations. This information will then be shared with airlines and other authorities to facilitate travel.

Before the scheme is fully implemented, Emirates will implement phase 1 in Dubai in April, during which passengers travelling from the city will be able to share information about their COVID-19 status even before they get to the airport, thus reducing their airport check-in time.

Adel Al Redha, Chief Operating Officer for Emirates said, “While international travel remains as safe as ever, there are new protocols and travel requirements with the current global pandemic. We have worked with IATA on this innovative solution to simplify and digitally transmit the information that is required by countries and governments into our airline systems, in a secure and efficient manner. We are proud to be one of the first airlines in the world to pilot this initiative, which will provide an enhanced customer experience and conveniently facilitate our customers’ travel needs.”

It is worthy of note that the IATA Travel Pass app will contain an integrated registry of travel requirements and accurate information about all travel destinations needed by passengers, regardless of where they are travelling from. The app will also contain information about testing and vaccination centers at passengers’ points of exit which meet the requirements of their destinations.

This global registry will be managed by IATA, and will allow the secure flow of required information between all necessary stakeholders in order to provide a seamless passenger experience.
