189-Seat Boeing 737-800 NG Joins Air Peace Fleet for Network Expansion - By Daisy BARRO
Air Peace has taken delivery of a Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, registration 5N-CGD, as part of its ongoing fleet renewal and capacity expansion program for high-demand domestic and regional routes. The aircraft arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on May 24, 2026.
Configured in an all-economy layout with 189 seats, the 737-800 NG introduces additional lift for point-to-point operations across West and Central Africa. The variant’s combination of CFM56-7B engines, advanced avionics, and aerodynamic refinements delivers improved fuel burn per seat-mile compared to earlier generation narrowbodies, supporting lower unit costs and reduced CO₂ output per passenger.
Operationally, the aircraft’s 5,500 km range and short-field performance provide scheduling flexibility for frequency increases and route optimization on sectors where load factors and turnaround times are critical. Features such as expanded overhead bins, modern cabin systems, and updated flight deck instrumentation are intended to enhance passenger throughput and dispatch reliability.
The delivery increases the carrier’s seat capacity and allows for finer matching of aircraft size to market demand, reducing over-capacity risk on thinner sectors while maintaining schedule integrity on core trunk routes. From a sustainability standpoint, the improved fuel efficiency aligns with the airline’s stated goal of lowering operating emissions without compromising network coverage.
With this addition, Air Peace’s fleet now spans widebody Boeing 777s for long-haul, Boeing 737NGs for regional and domestic trunk routes, Embraer regional jets, Dornier turboprops for thin markets, and Airbus helicopters for charter and utility operations. The mixed-fleet approach enables the airline to calibrate capacity across multiple market segments while preserving operational redundancy.
