NAMA Committed To Completion of AIS Automation - Anasi
The Acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Emma Anasi, has expressed determination of the agency to ensure a speedy completion of the Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) Automation project.
Anasi, who was represented by the General Manager, Safety Management
Services, Mr. Mathew Pwajok at this year’s Worlds AIS Day Celebration at the
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Annex, Murtala
Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, revealed that the first phase of
automation process shall become fully operational at eleven (11) stations
nationwide by the third quarter of 2016. He noted that in spite of initial
challenges traceable to lack of funding and other technicalities, the project
is back on course.
Furthermore, Anasi stressed that AIS is the “live-wire of any air
navigation system, as it ensures the safety, efficiency and regularity of air
navigation through the exchange of accurate, timely and reliable information to
airspace users, hence the Agency’s decision to speed up the automation process.
He added that the ongoing global migration from terrestrial based
navigation to satellite based navigation i.e. Performance Based Navigation
(PBN) needed a high level of accuracy and integrity of data required for
safety, efficiency and economy of flight operations. “The Agency has
also commenced due process for the training of required AIS personnel for the
effective management of the automation system when fully deployed,” Anasi
assured.
Earlier in an address, the President of the Aeronautical Information
Services Association of Nigeria (AISAN), Mr. Shittu Babatunde appealed to NAMA
management to assist the association in the area of personnel training, office
accommodation and technical equipment.
In his summation, Anasi
remarked that “with the committed and dedicated professionals in our AIS, as
well as the ongoing automation of our aeronautical information management
system, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency is optimistic that complete
transition to AIM shall be attained by December 2016.”
