Godfrey Ogbogu and Head of Engineering, Engr. Lukman Animashaun during the Airline’s inaugural Flight from Lagos to Jeddah via Kano at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Barely a month after commencing direct flight services to London Gatwick Airport in the UK, Med-view Airlines has yet again launched direct flight operations from Lagos to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia via Kano. The airline also opened new domestic routes from Abuja to Kano, and from Lagos to Kano effective January 4, 2016, as part of its strategy to consolidate its operations into Saudi Arabia and grow its market share in the Nigerian business space.

The Executive Director, Technical Services, Med-View Airlines, Mr. Lukman Animashaun said that the airline has been allocated four weekly slots into King Abdulazeez International Airport, Jeddah, but informed that the airline plans to begin operations on the route with two slots weekly on an initial basis.
“On our inaugural flight, we are having 44 passengers to Jeddah; 28 from Lagos and 16 from Kano. The passenger traffic would improve with time. The only competitor we have on that route is Saudi Air, which only flies from Kano Airport. Other airlines like Egypt Air, Kenya Airways and many others fly to Jeddah from their base. This is a direct flight,” said Mr. Animashaun.
Speaking further the airline’s Executive Director noted with delight that: “This is one good thing Nigerians would love. Under four hours, you are in Jeddah from Kano and within five and half hours, you are in Jeddah from Lagos. Also, our luggage allowance is a major factor for us. We are offering 64kgs for our economy passengers; (2-piece luggage of 32kgs each) and 96kgs for business class passengers (3-piece luggage of 32kgs each).
The airline has commissioned a B737-800 on the route departing to the Saudi Arabia on Thursdays and Saturdays with future plans to introduce a B767-300 as passenger numbers grow on the route, said Mr. Animashaun, adding that like it did on the London route, the airline would attract passengers on flights to Jeddah with a lower fare regime starting from N159,000.
